The photobook Stadtalphabet Wien (An urban alphabet of Vienna) deals with the typography of shop front lettering and signboards in Vienna. It is a snapshot of a certain condition and indicates the diversity of urban lettering and signage. The book also illustrates the fading of obsolete letters and – on the other hand – it shows the advent of new public typography. This permanent alteration not only provides evidence of a vivid city but also of a vital typography.
